Very good condition
Great for everyday writing, at the office or home.
Ready to be used!
Refurbished - Cleaned and Buffed
:
Removed nib & feed from section and thoroughly cleaned. Soaked and ultrasonically cleaned. Tested nib for smoothness and flex (See photo of writing sample.), then flushed. Polished top of nib with jeweler's cloth. Soaked and ultra-sonically cleaned entire pen. Scrubbed and swabbed inside the cap. Cleaned inside the barrel and lubricated the piston (see photo of ink window and piston). Confirmed piston moves freely (although, sometimes hesitant) and draws water. Buffed the cap and barrel.
Materials and Conditions
:
Body including Cap -
Good condition.
Barrel and cap are celluloid. Ink window is clear yellow plastic (green closer to section).
Gold-plated clip and cap bands.
Clip end has a nicely radius sweep that allows for easily slipping pen onto pocket. Clip has a very strong snap when plucked.
Micro-scratches and brassing on gold-plating.
Lots of tiny dings and scratches on body. Only the dings on the blind cap are noticeable.
Ink window is clear and colored bright yellow transitioning to green closer to the section. See photo
Screw-on cap - threads onto barrel nicely
The lower cap ring can be knocked up out of alignment -- the other half is somehow adhered to the cap. The ring does NOT rotate. The ring is shown out of alignment in the photos, but it can be pushed back in alignment, and will be aligned when shipped.
The photos show the "A" in PROMA is missing. The indentation was there. This has since been filled in with gold paint and the full word "PROMA" is fully legible.
No chips, cracks, significant scratches, personalized engravings, or discolorations.
Nib -
Stainless steel nib engraved with the Rupp circled lion-head logo and stamped "Iridium Tipped" and "59"
Rupp was a German nib maker in Heidelberg that pre-dates Bock, and made some nibs for Bock and Degauss nib makers, and even for Mont Blanc, Pelikan and Soennecken
Was a gold-plated nib, which wore off everywhere, except for the imprints -- which adds some flare
Broad point
Flexes from Broad (0.8 mm) to Triple Broad (1.8 mm), which is VERY impressive for a STEEL nib.
Breather hole is a circle
The face of the nib has a nice even matte luster and free of worn areas or discoloration.
Tines are properly aligned with plenty of the iridium tips which are smooth (See close up photos).
Writing sample was done by dipping the nib in ink (so the barrel was not filled or contaminated). The writing shows flexibility from Fine to
Piston -
Piston is cork (see photo)
Shaft is ALUMINUM (!)
Nib unit was removed to provide access to barrel interior. Interior was swabbed clean and then lubricated with silicone grease.
Filling system was tested with water.
